Signal path only had minor corrections, has the same Kaosamp mojo as before, let it be tightening up the low end or boosting a classic tube amp into oblivion while keeping it tight, or adding analog magic to digital rigs. Ditched the second ++ foostswich since everybody used one or the other mode permanently, so toggle switch it is, and this way we have more room for an improved internal power supply. And yes, the 12ax7 tube is still inside of course. Saturday story: this might be the very first full Saturday story: this might be the very first full build i did like 13-15 years ago. You can see the old logo. Used a 100w Laney Supergroup chassis with its trafos, i built a custom eyelet board 2 channel circuit into it. It is a 100w el34 amp. Actually this was the base that later evolved 2 ways both the Sludge/Warthog and the Rock (Z/F/Horus) series. I remember toying with the idea making this a regular model, but the appereance was too Marshall'ish and i really don't like labeled as copys because we are not doing that. I was very happy it resurfaced after all those years, the customer stated it was practically a barn find. It worked but needed some care, also a tube buffered fx loop and a footswitchable solo boost - the one that was used on the Sludgehog pedal too - was added, also a few tubes needed replacement. Oh and a Feedback pot was also added on the back. Made a little video of it's effect, will post that also later. So we got rid of the freq switches in the power amp (presence and resonance) stuck to the preferred value, converted to BITE BODY GAIN switches in the preamp, got a new blacked out 5mm thick alu faceplate tombstone tyle, and a new, laser engraved alu conrol plate under the pots. Since we already build a few of these in the last Since we already build a few of these in the last 12 months and i didn t made a proper introduction (that is totally my fault), and the Scarface amp pops up here and there so here we go, the Kaosamp Scarface. Designing this amp i thought about a minimalistic, pure as possible approach to rock/metal guitar tones. Shortest signal path as possible, but incorporating unusual methods, solutions. Clean channel...well, cleaner channel, is plexi style, you can roll it to clean with your fingertips on your guitar's pots, but you can play classic rock on it too. The lead channel is a crossover between the hatred/sludge/warthog circuits, keeping it nice and saturated to play it any style (bite and body switches included), heavy overdrive but still not super mega higain, so train your picking hand! (: Another twist is in the power amp section. That we kept clean, organic, no NFB at all, and utilized an active PI tail for perfect balancing of the push-pull output section's push and pull parts. 6550 tubes for that headroom. It lives and breathes as you play. Everyone knows old @laneyamplification amps have a Everyone knows old @laneyamplification amps have a special place in my heart. By deafault they have that superbass'ish circuit with a jtm'ish 6k6 (half that for 100w models) OT. A lil sluggish for my preference but i like the taste of it. I usually remove that with a few simple mods, the result is a much clearer, faster sound. Worked very well on this combo too. It was in terrible shape, a rewound PT with broken connections, a lot of KGST components butchered in (quite common on this side of the iron curtain), and missing pieces in the frame, rusted, cross threaded, broken screws. Well, not anymore, all filter caps replaced, coupling caps replaced with vintage correct ones, replaced the missing pieces of the back frame, and replaced literally all wood screws, patched up their worn out holes.
